Every year Ft Mifflin has a big “to do” on or near the anniversary of the battle between the British navy and the Ft. the Ft withstood 6 weeks of pounding from the Fleet’s cannons, then everybody snuck out in the middle of the night. while it sounds like a defeat it was really a victory. they had accomplished their goal and then some.
I was there demonstrating pre-industrial wood working.

I was set up in front of the Blacksmith shop. I think that about 1/4 of the people wo came to the event came back to see what I was doing.
The Most frequently asked question was “what are you making?”‘ a mess, a mess is what I made… and some legs for a short table. Also, the work reminded me of why this shaving horse is my favorite. I had left it there when I was using it there a lot. So, I brought it home!
The log I was working with was a little old but the wood that was still good had developed a color very like English oak. The photo doesn’t do it justice, it’s gorgeous.
